BROOKE COUNTY, W.Va. -- Among the dozens of suspects indicted by the Brooke County Grand Jury on Friday morning was one of the three people accused of robbing Gumby's in Weirton in October.
Darrell Hawkins had a status hearing, while Christina Hawkins and Steven Howell are the two other individuals who were involved in this crime.
“Your honor, the state made a plea offer to Mr. Hawkins and his co-defendant accepted that plea offer,” Brooke County Prosecutor Joe Barki said. “Mr. Hawkins turned it down and made a counter offer to the state which is unacceptable, and the state made another counter offer, which he hasn’t had a chance to discuss. But it either needs set for trial at this point, because I don’t know if we will resolve it through plea."
Hawkins faces a number of charges and is accused of driving the getaway car. In March, he pled not guilty to aiding and abetting and robbery and conspiracy charges.
His next scheduled court appearance in court is set for 3:30 p.m. on July 14.
