WTOV9.com
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio -- Officials received a call about a strong that was believed to have been a gas leak Friday afternoon in Stratton.
Residents in the area were immediately advised to leave their homes and go to the local library until fire crews determined what the problem was. It took about 3 hours while fire and emergency crews investigated where the odor was coming from.
“We contacted the gas company,” Stratton Fire Chief Harry Gotschall. “We thought maybe it was natural gas. It had a similar odor. They did respond, they checked the streets, checked the residences and found it not to be natural gas. The village here and the water department they responded; we flushed several sewers and tried to dissipate what odor we could find."
Though they don't know what was causing the odor, they are prepared to investigate if the odor resurfaces.
