Hoodstock 2014 Reunites Wild Cherry

Updated: Sunday, August 10 2014, 04:17 PM EDT

MINGO JUNCTION, OHIO - The highly anticipated Hoodstock 2014 is just days away. The shows founder and headliner Rob Parissi will be taking the stage Sunday night along with his band, Wild Cherry.

You may know Parissi and Wild Cherry's hit song " Play That Funky Music," or maybe you know Parissi because he was born and raised in Mingo Junction, Ohio.

Wild Cherry has been on a 36 year hiatus and this Sunday will be the first time Parissi and his band mates perform together.

"We thought about having a concert this year and we thought what can we do to make it special and I thought well let's see if we can get Wild Cherry back together again," Parissi said.

Parissi's tie to Mingo Junction extends beyond it being his childhood home, the song "Play That Funky Music" also has Mingo Junction roots.

"I came up with Hoodstock because it's in our neighborhood, my neighborhood. We actually rehearsed "Play That Funky Music" for the first time about two or three blocks away from where we are having the concert so it kind of tied itself in together," Parissi said. "I just always remember it's the people in my hometown that put me where I am and I would not be anywhere unless it was for them. This is where I started out. "

All the ticket proceeds along with t-shirt and DVD's sold during the concert will benefit the Robert Parissi Scholarship Endowment.

If you happen to be one of the lucky ticket holders, Hoodstock 2014 starts at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 10 at the Mingo Knights of Columbus Hall on 117 Legion Dr., Mingo Junction, OH 43938.
