BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio -- The last of this year's summer holidays has now come and gone. So while you may have been soaking in what's left of the season last weekend, those with the Ohio State Highway Patrol were incredibly busy.
"The last few summer holidays, we've been extremely busy,” Lt. James Faunda of the OSHP said last week. “This holiday will be no different."
Those words were proven true as 100 percent of on-duty staffing at the OSHP St. Clairsville post and federal overtime hours led to hundreds of stops, tickets, and several OVI arrests.
So, here's the breakdown.
There were more than a thousand total traffic stops during the Labor Day weekend.
Of those, there were 798 stops with citations. Troopers racked up seven OVI arrests and 68 seat belt citations. There were 24 aggressive driving offenses, three felony arrests, two misdemeanor drug arrests, and two misdemeanor warrants.
These results come as traffic for the last summer holiday proved to be the busiest in the last several years -- across the country, and in Ohio.
