New K-9 hits streets in Cadiz

HARRISON COUNTY, Ohio - The Cadiz Police Department is getting a new addition.
Meet Ramos, the department's new K-9, and a replacement for Endy, who retired several months ago.
Ramos is a 2 and-a-half-year-old German Shepherd.
"It's much needed," Cadiz Police Chief Ryan McCann said. "Not for just drugs but to have protection for guys and the handler. With all the traffic stuff that we're seeing with the oil and gas, hopefully it'll deter a lot of drug activity or movement in vehicles."
Ramos made the long trip across the Atlantic from the Netherlands, with the help of Ohio Valley Canine. Since March, he's been hard at work training with his handler, Cadiz patrolman C.J. Byers.
"It was good experience - probably the most frustrating at times, but the most rewarding things that I've ever done," Byers said.
Byers says having Ramos by his side is a dream come true and says it's been humbling to be able to bring two of his favorite things in life together.
"He is the best partner you could ever ask for," Byers said. "He is there no matter what, he's there to back me up in any point in time. He's out there for me in the community."
