Officials investigate into a case of shots fired

Updated: Wednesday, May 14 2014, 10:33 AM EDT

WINTERSVILLE, Ohio-- One person is dead, another is in custody after a shooting in Wintersville early Wednesday morning.
Officials said just after midnight at the Ridgewood Apartments complex along Two Ridge Road, a 22-year-old man died after being shot multiple times.

Investigators are trying working to learn why the shooting happened.

"This is senseless homicide," Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla said. "Senseless. 22-year-old individual could've frustrated someone enough or made them upset enough to take a young kid's life. It doesn't make sense. It never will make sense."

The suspect was arrested after an overnight search.
Abdalla said there are a significant number of witnesses and people who live in the area who assisted in the identification of the suspect. He also said there are other witnesses officials still need to interview.

Officials are withholding the name of the victim and the name of the individual they arrested until more information is available.
