Updated: Tuesday, July 22 2014, 04:29 PM EDT

UPDATE:

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio--

A Bergholz man is facing a number of charges following an alleged armed robbery in Steubenville on Monday night.

Jonathan Smith is charged with aggravated robbery, resisting arrest, receiving stolen property, obstruction of justice and fleeing and eluding.

Smith appeared in Steubenville municipal court Tuesday morning where a judge imposed a $100,000 bond.

Steubenville police said they received a call of an armed robbery at the Hollywood City Center Hallmark around 7:40 Monday night.

"The victim stated she had just been robbed at knifepoint.  She gave an excellent description of the suspect, the vehicle involved and direction of travel.  She even gave a license plate number," Steubenville Police Chief Bill McCafferty said.  "The vehicle he used was stolen from Weirton earlier in the day, so he intended to do this.  According to the victim, she said the suspect had been in the store earlier in the day so she recognized him when he came back in."

Police caught up with the suspect vehicle Monday night along the Wellesley Avenue extension.  McCafferty said Smith exited the vehicle and fled into a wooded area.  Police tell NEWS9 they recovered two knives and an undisclosed amount of cash allegedly stolen from the Steubenville Hallmark store.

Police said Smith also has several petit theft charges on his record from 2013 and 2014.

He is currently in the Jefferson County Jail following Monday night's arrest.
