WINTERSVILLE, Ohio -- Some people in Wintersville want to problem property consistently taken care of by the owner.
It’s a piece of land off Meadow Road, and it’s in the process of being cleaned up. Before the city stepped in, neighbors say it was covered in weeds up to 10 feet high, and was filled with rodents like snakes and mice, causing health concerns.
“We go to city council meetings,” resident Joe Geary said. “We talk to the administrators; we talk to whoever it might be to try to get this taken care of. It's almost month after month that we have to get this taken care of."
Wintersville Mayor Bob Gale said crews are cleaning up part of the property.
In a statement, the mayor said, “The property owner granted the village a right of way for storm water runoff through his property, and we have agreed to clean the weeds from the property and the property owner agreed to pay to cover material costs.”
Gale also said, going forward, the property owner is aware that he must maintain the property. If he doesn’t, he will be cited into village court and face fines.
