Three from three states arrested in St. Clairsville

Updated: Wednesday, August 27 2014, 01:21 PM EDT
BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio -- Three people - from three different states -- were taken to jail late Tuesday night in Belmont County after an observant officer on patrol noticed something out of place.
At 11:11 on Tuesday night, a St. Clairsville officer was patrolling through Memorial Park when he stumbled across a vehicle with no license plates. Inside was a male and female with four children.
St. Clairsville police Chief Jeff Henry said his officer immediately called for backup from the sheriff's office. A quick check indicated the vehicle was allegedly stolen out of Texas. Lairon Crews, 32, of Mississippi, faces four charges for receiving stolen property, obstructing official business, child endangerment and trespassing.
"She used a bad check to purchase the car," St. Clairsville Police Chief Jeff Henry said.
Henry said the man Crews was with fled from officers on foot from Memorial Park to Walmart. There, he was picked up by another woman and taken to Martins Ferry. Officers tracked his cell phone and quickly learned his whereabouts.
Belmont County Police picked up 24-year-old Dwayne Alphonso Ford Jr., of Maryland, and charged him with trespassing and obstructing official business.
It turns out Ford Jr. is a wanted man.
"There's a holder at the sheriff's office on him out of Maryland for felonious assault," Henry said.
Meanwhile, 23-year-old Alexandra Meade of Martins Ferry was also taken to jail, faced with an obstructing justice charge.
The four children were placed with Belmont County Children's Services.
