JEFFERSON COUNTY, OH

The protests in Ukrain have been going on since the end of November and this week, an interim government has taken over after the president went into hiding.

Thursday, a native Ukrainian will be spreading his message to residents of Jefferson County. Father Yuriy Sakvuk is visiting the United States and Canada to raise funds and learn more about Ukrainian Greek-Catholic parishes.

Sakvuk said that the Ukrainian people are trying to overcome President Viktor Yanukovych and regain their dignity.

He said the protests, which have been happening since late November, have resulted in a victory of the citizens who want a change in government.

Franciscan University of Steubenville assistant professor Dr. Alexander Sich lived in Ukraine for 12 years and explained that the citizens lived under a rule that is a degeneration of dignity.

Franciscan University is Sakvuk's first stop on this trip through the United States and Canada. He will be speaking Thursday night at 7 p.m. in the Pugliese Auditorium at Franciscan University.
