Weirton-area food lovers treated to Restaurant Tour

Updated: Wednesday, February 19 2014, 11:39 AM EST

WEIRTON, W.Va. – Residents in the Weirton area were treated to a one-of-a-kind experience Tuesday night as some of the area’s finest restaurant joined the Top of West Virginia in playing host to the first Weirton Restaurant Tour.

For $35, folks on the tour boarded a shuttle that stopped at four different eateries, beginning with Fujiyama, where they were treated to a mini hibachi performance and some of Fujiyama’s most popular appetizers.

The next stop was next door at Mario’s for its famous wedding soup and salad. Then it was on to Undo’s for a main course pasta dish, and then back to Tesla’s at the Serbian-American Cultural Center for their choice of three deserts.

“Not only is this a great thing for these restaurants, it’s a great thing for people who haven’t been to these restaurants,” Weirton Mayor George Kondik said. “These are top-notch restaurants in our city and a lot of people who haven’t been here before will come back. It’s a great plus to show off our city.”

Hancock County Commissioner Dan Greathouse agreed.

“We have a wealth of hotels and restaurants around here – and things for people to see and do,” he said. “So we want people to come to our restaurants. We want them to enjoy the food and see what it is.”

Another city restaurant tour is planned for May.
