Worker flown to hospital after industrial accident

WEIRTON, W.Va.--

A worker was flown to the hospital to be treated for injuries following an industrial accident at ArcelorMittal Wednesday evening.

Emergency officials say they got the call around 6:30 p.m.  They say a man had to be flown to the hospital to be treated for a laceration to the leg.  The victim underwent surgery but is expected to be OK.

ArcelorMittal's Response to the incident:
- On Wednesday, July 23, one employee was injured at ArcelorMittal Weirton’s tin mill. The incident resulted in a laceration from a piece of sheet steel.
- We understand that the employee’s injuries are not life threatening, and we are hopeful for a quick and complete recovery.
- A joint safety investigation was immediately initiated.
- The health and safety of our employees is our number one priority.
