TUSCARAWAS COUNTY, Ohio --

Officials in Tuscarawas County are investigating an animal cruelty case after a horse was found dead on a property near Dennison.

Photos were sent to NEWS9 on Wednesday depicting a dead horse covered in snow. Residents said they notified the Humane Society, but nothing was done. Now, the Sheriff's Department is looking into the horse's death to determine if anyone could face charges.

Julie Tripodi, of Operation Warm and Cozy, an organization that's goal is to help animals and pet owners in need, said, "We do know that the horse never got out of the shed. We believe that the walls fell down as the horse died. He was locked in the shed where he wasn't even able to backup, turn around, There is nowhere for the horse to graze."

The Sheriff's Department is investigating the case. Once the interviews are concluded, it will be turned over to the prosecutor's office.

In a statement, officials with the Tuscararawas County Humane Society tell NEWS9 they were not made aware of the horse until after it had died but that they are working in conjuction with he Sheriff's office in the investigation.
