WHEELING, W.VA. —

Wheeling police are searching the person who shot a St. Clairsville man Friday afternoon. According to reports, a light-skinned black man shot Jeremiah Scherer, 26, in the stomach with a gun on South Huron Street about 3:19 p.m. on Wheeling Island. Scherer told officers the shooter fled on foot, and the victim drove himself to Wheeling Hospital, authorities said. Police describe the shooter as in his late 20s to early 30s, about 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, with thick hair in braids past the shoulders. The shooter appeared to be unshaven with a goatee, and he wore a dark-red ball cap and dark-red jacket, reports said. The incident is still under investigation, police said.
