19-Year-Old Faces Charges In Police Chase

CHESTER, W.Va. —

A 19-year-old East Liverpool resident is facing charges in two states after allegedly leading a Chester police officer on a chase that crossed state lines and ended in the officer's cruiser being rammed by the truck the suspect was driving.

Police say the officer was forced to fire his gun at the suspect when he drove a Dodge Ram pickup truck at the officer's cruiser. Police reports indicate that Russell suffered a graze wound to the leg.

Hancock County Sheriff Mike White attributes the officer's training to what helped save his life.

"Our officers are well trained and that's what helps them survive situations like this," he said.

Russell is currently facing charges of felonious assault and receiving stolen property. East Liverpool police said he has been arrested three times in the East Liverpool area before this incident. Russell is currently being held on $50,000 bond in the Columbiana County Jail.
