HARRISON COUNTY, Ohio —

Two people are in custody after a shots-fired incident late Tuesday night in Harrison County.

Officials said the incident involved someone opening fire as one car passed another along a gravel road.

The Harrison County Sheriff's Office received a call from Charles Brown, who said he was on his way home from Jewett area when shots were fired at his car in the area of Hanover Ridge and Briar Road.

Brown told investigators that his ex-girlfriend, Darla Sanders, and Daniel Culp Sr. opened fire on his vehicle as he drove past them.

Brown was not injured and the incident remains under investigation.

"(Brown's) ex-girlfriend turned on that car and followed it down, started down the road, and that's apparently when we received the reports of the shots being fired at the vehicle," Sheriff Ron Myers said.

Investigators said they still have questions, including what events led up to the shooting and who pulled the trigger.

Brown told investigators that five to 20 rounds were fired, but Myers said, "We don't know if that was the case and that's why we're still investigating."

After investigators received Brown's call, they caught up with Sanders and Culp around New Rumley Road near Jewett. Both suspects were questioned, arrested and are facing assault and drug paraphernalia charges.

Brown was also taken into custody Tuesday night on a drug indictment, but was released because of a medical condition.

Culp remains in the Harrison County Jail, while Sanders was transported and being held at the Jefferson County Jail.
