2 injured in Carroll Co. crash on airport runway

By NEWS9

CARROLL COUNTY, Ohio —

Two men are in local hospitals following a car crash off the Carroll County airport runway Saturday morning, according to the Carroll County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Dale Williams told NEWS9 that David Newbold, 31, of Carrollton, drove with passenger Travis Murphy, 31, of Carrollton, onto the county airport property about 4 a.m. The car continued down to the end of the runway at a high-rate of speed before crashing into a wooded ravine on Ascot Road in Center Township, Williams said.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol and county EMS responded to the scene to help extract the men, and authorities said both were taken to local hospitals. Williams said Newbold suffered severe head trauma, a fractured back and ankles while Murphy's injuries were less severe.

Alcohol is a factor in the crash, and charges are pending following the instigation, Williams said.
