Clay County, W.Va—

According to a West Virginia State Police spokesman, two troopers pulled over Luke Baber of Oak Hill, W.Va., near the Wall Back Park and Ride for reckless driving.
According to a release from state police, Baber slipped out of his cuffs and shot both officers with a gun he had in his possession when he was taken into custody.
Cpl. Marshall Lee Bailey died at the scene.
The other officer shot, Trooper Eric Michael Workman, was transported to Charleston Area Medical Center, where he is listed in critical condition
Officials said Baber then shot a tow truck driver, William Massey. Massey was called to the scene to pick up Baber's car.
Baber ran from the scene, and deputies from Clay and Roane counties caught up with him a short time later, officials said.
That's when police say another shootout broke out, this time between Baber and a deputy from Roane County.
Officials said Deputy Sheriff John Westfall was injured in that second incident. Baber shot Westfall before being killed, according to authorities.
Westfall was taken to Charleston Area Medical Center; his injuries appear to be non-life-threatening.
U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin has released the following statement:
"Gayle (Manchin's wife) and I were deeply saddened when we learned of this terrible incident ... We continue to keep these officers and their loved ones in our thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time."
To honor the fallen trooper, Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin has also ordered that all U.S. and state flags at state facilities be lowered to half-staff until further notice.
Massey was treated and released from the hospital just before 2 a.m. Wednesday. He is now with family.
According to West Virginia State Police, this was the first fatal shooting involving a trooper in 19 years.
