STEUBENVILLE, Ohio —

Three people are charged after police said they conspired to steal checkbook from a man at a bank then tried to cash the stolen checks.

Daniel Gallahan Jr., 29, of Follansbee; Kathryn Dillon, 28, of Amsterdam; and Jamie Whitman, 22, of Wintersville, are charged in connection with the incident.

Police said Gallahan took the victim's checkbook right from his hands Thursday afternoon at the Huntington Bank in Hollywood Plaza while Dillon and Whitman distracted the victim.

Investigators said the trio fled in a red Geo with an odd-colored door. The suspects drove to the Huntington Bank branch in downtown Steubenville and tried to cash the stolen checks, but the bank declined.

An officer driving by the downtown bank saw the red Geo and two women inside. When the officer stopped, one of the women said Gallahan "made me do it" and the other said she was just getting a ride.

Police found Gallahan hiding in a bush near the bank drive-through. When they approached him, he ran toward Fourth Street. He was apprehended shortly after.

The suspects appeared in Steubenville City Court on Friday morning. Gallahan is charged with robbery, tampering with evidence and receiving stolen property.

Police said the two female suspects cooperated with officials, but they've also been charged with receiving stolen property.
