3 Charged After Large Fight Outside Of Wheeling Bar

WHEELING, W.Va. —

Police said they had to use all of the manpower they had in the area to break up a large fight near a Wheeling bar.

Three men were arrested after the fight outside of the River City Ale Works early Friday.

Brandon Barnett was charged with disorderly conduct and battery, and Ronald Green was charged with public drunkenness and disorderly conduct. Ronald Johnson was charged with battery, and officers said they had to use a stun gun on him before they were able to arrest him.

River City was the site of an indoor brawl last Saturday. At that time, Deputy Chief Martin Kimball said 20 to 30 people were "actively in a fight throwing beer bottles, throwing pool balls, and champagne bottles, breaking pool sticks and it took every officer in the city to quiet that crowd down."

Officers said they made one arrest Saturday but said there could have been many more.

During the most recent incident, during an event Thursday night at the bar, Kimball said River City did the right thing by having extra security to prevent another large fight.

"They hired off-duty officers. They actually checked underage people for any underage consumption," Kimball said.

But, after the event, a crowd gathered down the street in a parking lot and a fight broke out. Officers said there were about 50 people watching.

Kimball said small bar fights are pretty typical, but police don't always know what to expect.

"Any time you're in a fight, you have the potential for serious injury, whether someone might fall or strike their head, which we had happen last year on a curb," Kimball said.

Investigators also said the two fights are not related. The manager and owner at River City did not return a message from NEWS9 as of 4:15 p.m.

The three suspects in Friday morning's fight remained in the Northern Regional Jail on Friday.
