BELLAIRE, Ohio —
NEWS9 has confirmed that a woman is dead after a burglary Saturday afternoon in Bellaire.
It happened at 124 4th Avenue in West Bellaire around 1 p.m.
According to Bellaire Police Chief Mike Kovalyk, the burglar killed the 92-year-old woman inside her home. It's not the first burglary the area has seen recently, he said.
"It's becoming too often the case. But for someone to prey on an elderly lady like this is just a tragedy," Kovalyk said.
The Belmont County Coroner and assistant coroner were at the scene, along with the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification investigators.
Authorities are not releasing the victim’s name.
