A Vow To Serve

The news took many by surprise; six catholic parishes will consolidate into one in the Diocese of Steubenville. Sunday the priest who will lead that parish was installed as pastor. Fr Tim McGuire of Holy Rosary will take over as pastor of Triumph of the Cross. While the church has not been built yet, he has already started the tough journey ahead. Six parishes: Holy Name, Holy Rosary, Saint Anthony, St. Pius X, St. Stanislaus and Servants of Christ the King, will merge to form Triumph of the Cross. Fr. McGuire will have the responsibility of overseeing the construction of the new church. The consolidation is not expected to be complete for at least two years. Fr. McGuire says while the change will be difficult for some, a declining number of priests, and a changing demographic makes the change necessary. He says he hopes parishioners will see the possibilities ahead, "The building of this community and the building of the new church is a real, a real special moment in the history of the Diocese of Steubenville."
