Accused dog killer waives preliminary hearing, case goes to grand jury

OHIO COUNTY, W.Va.—

The man accused of beating to death an 8-pound shih tzu last week waived his right to a preliminary hearing in Ohio County Magistrate Court Wednesday.

Anthony Doyle, 27, remains behind bars, where $25,000 bond has been set.

The brief procedure took place before Ohio County Magistrate Patricia Murphy.

Doyle's case will now be presented to the next term of the Ohio County Grand Jury, which convenes Sept. 10.


Prosecutors said it is possible that more charges could be filed against Doyle.

Doyle is charged with one felony count of animal cruelty. It comes after, prosecutors say, he beat his girlfriend's dog to death on Aug. 5 on Wheeling Island.

Police said when they investigated the incident; they found Doyle with blood on him in the house where the crime occurred.
