Accused Sex Offender Argues Conflict Of Interest

A potential conflict may change the courtroom agenda in the case of an Ohio County man accused of having sexual contact with a boy.

Daryn Pandolis, 36, was expected to enter a guilty plea Tuesday on charges of two courts of sex abuse. Pandolis was arrested in November after allegations he had sexual contact with a boy under the age of 12 from 2000 to 2005.

However, a family member of the alleged victim works at the Ohio County Courthouse. Tuesday, instead of pleading guilty, Pandolis filed a request asking the judge to determine if there is a conflict of interest.

Joe Barki of the Ohio County prosecutor's office said he does not feel there is any reason for concern.

"I don't believe there's a conflict due to the prosecutor's role in this matter. I don't think there's any prosecutorial impropriety in the proceeding with the case," Barki said.

If Pandolis is granted his request next Wednesday, a special prosecutor will be assigned to the case.

Pandolis remains jailed on a $300,000 bond pending the judge's decision.
