Accuser expected to testify at Steubenville teen rape trial

By NEWS9

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio —

Juvenile court officials took questions from reporters on Wednesday about media access to the upcoming trial of two Steubenville High School student-athletes charged with rape.

The list of questions gathered from the media will be forwarded to visiting Judge Thomas Lipps for his decision.

The non-jury trial is scheduled to start on March 13 at 10:30 a.m. and is expected to continue through the next two days -- Thursday and Friday -- starting at 9 a.m. It is possible that testimony could be heard on Saturday.

A juvenile court official said the 16-year-old accuser is expected to testify.

Special prosecutors from the Ohio Attorney General's Office have subpoenaed 20 witnesses. One of the suspect's defense attorneys has suggested he will call between 12 to 18 witnesses.

The other suspect's defense attorney had not submitted a witness list as of Wednesday afternoon.

The teen defendants are charged with raping the 16-year-old girl on Aug. 11, 2012. Both are being tried as juveniles and both have pleaded not guilty.
