Alleged Parvovirus Outbreak Questioned At Harrison County Dog Pound

CADIZ, Ohio —

For the second time in less than two years, the Harrison County dog pound has had a parvovirus outbreak.

The Harrison County dog pound is no stranger to controversy.

Last December, people were protesting along the side of the road because some of the animals had parvovirus infection, a potentially deadly disease for dogs.

Now, less than a year later, its allegedly happened again.

The only difference this time, is that the pound is temporarily closed to the public.

NEWS9 spoke with ASPCA official Robin McClelland.

She said dog pound officials made the disease public Wednesday.

"They posted it on their official Facebook site," McClelland said.

All attempts to contact pound officials were not returned.

McClelland said there were two alleged cases of parvo within the past 10 days. One dog she says was fortunate, the other, a five-month old puppy, was not as lucky.

"We've felt that the parvo situation has been historic here at the Harrison dog pound," McClelland said.

McClelland said she offered dog pound officials an inexpensive kennel cleaning system, which they allegedly refused.

The system cleans kennel walls, crate cages, even food bowls.

"There's an incubation period for parvo," McClelland said.

She said the pound could be closed for as many as 15 days.
