BERGHOLZ, Ohio —

A Bergholz business owner gave folks in the Ohio Valley an early Christmas present -- lower gas prices.

Supermart owner Ed Dailey said he lowered gas prices for the annual Light Up the Town Sunday night.

Dailey said he sold gas for $2.29 a gallon for the entire length of the event. Gas prices are lowered at the Supermart on holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas because Dailey said he likes to give back to the community.

Customers said they appreciate the low prices and Dailey said he normally lowers gas prices on Christmas, too.

Across the state of Ohio, gasoline prices have slipped 3 cents from last week following a major slide in oil prices.

A survey from auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and Wright Express puts the current statewide average for regular-grade gasoline at $2.57 per gallon, down from $2.60 last Monday.

On Friday, troubling economic news from Dubai led to the largest percentage drop in crude oil prices since January. The Middle Eastern emirate asked lenders for a six-month reprieve on payments for about $60 billion in debt.

Gas prices in Ohio are down 10 cents from a month ago, when regular was averaging $2.67. Last year at this time, the state's motorists were paying a much cheaper $1.71 per gallon.
