Bankrupt RG Steel wants to pay $767,000 in bonuses; Union responds

The United Steelworkers union is responding to RG Steel's request to give salaried employees bonuses to continue working for the bankrupt steel company through the end of 2012.

The union cites a motion filed by RG Steel in bankruptcy court on Thursday that requests the authority to pay $767,000 to 21 workers.

The union called the move a "slap in the face" since it says RG Steel still owes money to steelworkers and retirees for unpaid vacation, severance, medical claims and other bills.

NEWS9 attempted to contact RG Steel officials for comment but had not heard back from the company's media representative as of 4:20 p.m. Friday.
