BARNESVILLE, Ohio —

An electrical problem is believed to have sparked a quick-moving fire that severely damaged a Belmont County home just before 10 a.m. Monday.

Barnesville Fire Chief Bob Smith said a woman was canning food in the basement of a Brooks Drive home in the Hillcrest area home before the fire. She said she turned off a stove and a breaker that powers the stove and went upstairs.

A short time later, she heard a popping sound. Her husband went down to the basement to check around and found the room fully engulfed in flames.

The man immediately called 911 and there were no reported injuries.

Smith said the fire went up to the first floor and attic and said there was "very extensive damage done to the structure."

Smith said state fire marshal investigators will determine if the home was destroyed.

In addition to the Tanker Task Force, fire crews from Somerton, Barnesville, Bethesda and Lafferty responded to the blaze.
