Belmont County, OH —

Crews spent hours battling a pretty bad garage fire in Belmont County on Wednesday night. The fire started around 6 p.m. in Sunset Heights.

The home sits off of Old Cadiz Road just a couple of miles outside of Bridgeport. The fire started in the garage and thanks to a number of different crews the home was saved, but the biggest save of the night came before crews arrived when some quick thinking neighbors worked together to get a 103 year old woman to safety.

"As we pulled out of the station we could see heavy smoke as we arrived there was heavy smoke and two neighbors were bringing the elderly female out the front door," said Chief Jim Delman of the Sunset Heights Volunteer Fire Department.

Before crews saw arrived to see the women make it outside safely. There were some horrifying moments for Roxanne Gaul and her 103-year-old mother.

"We heard something at the garage door and opened it and all this black smoke poured in and her car was on fire in the garage," said Roxanne Gaul. "It took off and set the whole garage on fire."

Roxanne had to scramble to find a way to get her mother outside, until some neighbors came to the rescue.

"They got her out of the house and there was about eight of them carrying her back down the hill to the front yard," said Gaul. "We have great neighbors up here. Everybody will help anybody anyway they can up here. Thank god for them."

Gaul's mother is safe, but she won't be able to return to her home because officials are still trying to figure out where the fire started.

Officials say they will have someone from the State Fire Marshal's Office come out sometime Thursday to investigate.
