Bishop Donahue High School says goodbye to textbooks

By Philip Stahl

McMECHEN, W.Va.—

Freshman and sophomores going to school at Bishop Donahue High School next year will no longer be handed textbooks, but instead will get an iPad.

“Our goal is 100 percent total integration, changing our curriculum from textbook-based curriculum to iPad- based curriculum,” said Principal Tom Wise.

School officials will purchase about 60 iPads for the freshman and sophomore classes. They were able to secure about $25,000 in donations from benefactors.

“Textbooks can come obsolete within a year, with the iPad, you can update the apps daily,” said Wise.

Wise said that they still need money to buy iPads for the junior and senior classes. He’s hoping they can get them by next school year.
