Bloomingdale Bridge Still Closed

The Bloomingdale bridge in Jefferson County is still closed after a weekend accident.

Ohio Department of Transportation officials said a truck carrying an oversized load slammed into the bridge, severely damaging it.

On Friday morning, inspectors went to the bridge to take a close look at the structure.

Tom Corey, who is a transportation manager for ODOT, said, "The load hit the first beam and split it about 8 inches."

Corey said a contractor is coming in next week to start removing the beam to fix the problem and drivers will soon be able to cross the bridge.

Corey said, "Once the contractor comes in and completes his work, we will have one lane open on that bridge and it will be controlled by traffic signals."

The work is expected to be completed by January.
