Body Found In Frozen Lake

Butler County, PA —

A woman's body was found inside her car underneath the icy Lake Arthur in Butler County Pennsylvania this morning.

The victim is 55-year-old Betty Martof of Warren, Ohio.

Divers found Martof inside her white Pontiac in 12 feet of water just before 11 o'clock this morning.

Investigators are still trying to determine how she ended up in the lake, but they say she may have been lost and confused.

The tire tracks show the car followed a snowmobile trail to the icy lake and may have tried to get off the trail using a boat ramp.

The ramp sits just 150 yards from where the car hit the ice and eventually sank.

Three of the car doors were locked with the windows rolled up, while the driver's window was slightly open, and the door was unlocked.

Authorities say the woman was not wearing a seatbelt.

Investigators now must determine whether Martof was lost or if she intentionally drove her car into the lake.
