Boil order in effect for parts of Wheeling

By NEWS9

WHEELING, W.Va. —

The City of Wheeling has issued a water boil notice for the following areas:

  • National Road area from the intersection of Serig Drive and Grandview Street to the intersection of National Road and Stone Boulevard
  • Mt. Wood Road from the intersection of Mt. Wood and National Road to 99 Mt. Wood Road

According to a news release from the city, a water problem happened Wednesday on Grandview Street, potentially contaminating city water.

"The break was isolated and is being repaired, but conditions indicate a high probability that the water is contaminated at this time. Testing has not yet occurred to confirm or deny the presence of water contamination," the release stated.

People should not drink the water without boiling it first. Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, then let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. Until further notice, boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, bathing and food preparation.

The city of Wheeling Water Department anticipated resolving the problem by Thursday afternoon, but customers must allow time for the department to sample the line after the repair and run a bacteria test, which takes a full 24 hours.

The city of Wheeling will notify the public when the boil order is lifted.
