BROOKE COUNTY, W.Va. —

A man accused of sexually abusing a child for several years appeared in Brooke County Circuit Court for the first time in the case on Friday morning.

Danny Ray Six, 40, is accused of sexually abusing and assaulting a girl from the time she was 7 until she was 13 years old.

Six was indicted this week on 15 counts of sexual abuse. He went before Judge Ronald Wilson on Friday to sort through the details before his arraignment.

The judge ruled his bond will remain at $200,000, and another hearing was scheduled for March 14.

Brooke County prosecutor Joe Barki said, "We had a report from his victim, who has gotten a little bit older at this point. And then it went through -- over a period of time of about seven years, there were sexual assaults that took place between Mr. Six and the victim."

Barki said the incidents allegedly happened in the Follansbee area.

"There's always been, since my career has started, a consistent number of sexual abuse and assault cases that go on. Of course they vary in types, you can have cases involving adults on adults, and the worst cases obviously are adults on children," Barki said.

Authorities arrested Six in January, and he is in the West Virginia Northern Regional Jail on $200,000 bond.

In court, he had requested an attorney who wasn't able to attend, so the judge did not take a plea.

"(Six) is charged with 15 counts; each one of those carries a substantial number of sentences," Barki said.

He said over the years, the stigma of being a sexual assault victim is being lifted as more reports are made.

Six could face a minimum of 20 years in jail if convicted. He is scheduled to be arraigned next week.
