Bond set at $100,000 for man accused of stealing oxycodone from pharmacy

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio —

A man accused of stealing more than 1,000 painkillers from a Steubenville drug store appeared in court Friday.

Benjamin Goffoli, 57, was arrested Thursday in a trailer on State Route 213. Police said they found him hiding in a closet after they received a tip where he might be staying.

Goffoli faces charges of felony drug possession as well as a theft charge after police said he took off with more than 1,000 oxycodone pills from a Steubenville pharmacy. Investigators said Goffoli first asked for Opana, but when a worker told him the pharmacy didn't have any, he demanded oxycodone and ran, police said.

In Steubenville Municipal Court on Friday, Judge G. Daniel Spahn set his bond at $100,000. Goffoli is scheduled to be back in court next Friday for a preliminary hearing to determine if there is enough evidence to move the case along.
