BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio —

The national department store chain Boscov's will open a new store at the Ohio Valley Mall in Belmont County.

Boscov's is the nation's largest family-owned department store chain, and is in its 102nd year in business. Is has a wide variety of products from apparel to home furnishings and electronics.

The location is the retailer's first in the state of Ohio, and its opening will create about 300 new jobs, officials said at a press conference Thursday morning.

The store will occupy 180,000-square-feet at the mall in the location previously used by Levin Furniture and JC Penney. Officials said the tentative plan is to temporarily relocate several neighboring stores to make room for Boscov's

Anthony Cafaro Jr., Cafaro Co. co-president, said Cafaro Co. is working on relocating those stores elsewhere in the shopping center.

"When Boscov's opens later this year before the holidays, their storefront will actually front almost half of this entire mall concourse and it will be an all-glass storefront. You'll be able to see into the store throughout this entire Sears concourse," Cafaro said.

The goal is for Boscov's to be open by October, but as of Thursday no exact date was given. Officials said that Boscov's will definitely be open by the holiday shopping season.
