BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio —

Lanes are back open Sunday on I-470 after crews responded to a crash involving a tractor trailer and a van in Belmont County.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the two-vehicle crash happened about 11:40 a.m. on I-470 eastbound at mile post 1 near the I-70 split. Troopers temporarily closed the interstate while crews cleaned up the wreck.

Troopers said the van slowed down due to traffic and the tractor trailer didn't keep a safe distance, causing the driver to rear-end the van.

The van flipped over, causing minor injuries to those inside the vehicle, troopers said. The tractor trailer ran into the cable barrier that separates the east and westbound lanes.

"The cable guardrail held up very well. It stopped the tractor trailer," said Sgt. James Faunda of OSHP. "It kept it from striking west bound traffic, which prevented a lot of serious injury and possibly a fatality."

Troopers said the injured people refused treatment.
