Officials: Wood burner caused fire that destroyed home

By NEWS9

HARRISON COUNTY, Ohio --

A Harrison County home was destroyed by fire on Tuesday, and officials said a wood burner is to blame.

No one was injured in the blaze, which broke out around noon on Hall Road off State Route 151, between Jewett and Hopedale.

Jewett Fire Department Capt. Kevin Arbaugh said there was very heavy smoke and fire coming from the roof when they arrived at the scene.

Two people were in the home at the time. Norena Henry, a family friend, was babysitting the youngest of three children who live there when the child saw the smoke.

"She said, 'Auntie, it's smoking.' I said, 'Where?' and she said, 'Up there," Henry said.

Arbaugh said people should make sure wood burners are clean to prevent similar incidents.
