Police seek 2 suspects in Hancock Co. bank robbery, warrants forthcoming

By NEWS9

NEW CUMBERLAND, W.Va. —

Two people are being charged with Tuesday's robbery of the New Cumberland branch office of Hancock County Savings Bank.

Russell Frederick Culbreth, 34, and Neredia Jade Marie Ferrer, 19, have been named as the suspects. Neither have fixed addresses, according to a release from the Hancock County Sheriff's Office.

After a joint effort between the Hancock County Sheriff's Office and the New Cumberland City Police Department, enough evidence was gathered and turned in to the Hancock County Prosecutor's Office to obtain warrants for the pair.

The news release said Culbreth, a convicted felon for a previous robbery in South Carolina, will be facing charges in Hancock County for bank robbery, which comes with a prison sentence of 10 to 20 years, according to Hancock County Prosecutor James Davis.

Davis said Ferrer will face charges for accessory to bank robbery.

Police officials said the suspects are believed to be driving a 1999 black, two-door Pontiac Grand Am with West Virginia license plate 3TF250 with a faded bra – a stretchy type of vinyl, usually black, that attaches to the front of a vehicle -- and a loud exhaust.

New Cumberland Police Chief Lester Skinner said officers put in countless hours gathering evidence for the prosecutor's office. He said the joint effort with the Hancock County Sheriff's Office proved beneficial.

Hancock County Sheriff Ralph Fletcher said assistance from the public was crucial in the case, as information was gathered from tips received from the public after surveillance pictures and information was released earlier this week.

"Our guys did an excellent job and we thank the public for their help as well," Fletcher said. "We will extradite these two individuals back here to face these charges."

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Culbreth and Ferrer can contact the Hancock County Sheriff's Office at (304) 564-3911 or the New Cumberland City Police Department at (304) 564-3383.
