By NEWS9

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio —

Two Steubenville High School students have officially been charged in connection with alleged kidnapping and rape of another minor.

Officials said both suspects are 16 years old and are Big Red student-athletes. They are being held at the juvenile detention center in Jefferson County.

One teen is facing an additional charge of illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material.

The teens were arrested earlier this week in connection with a police report filed on Aug. 14.

After the students' arrests, Steubenville City Schools Superintendent Mike McVey released a statement, saying in part: "The district intends to fully cooperate with any criminal investigation that may ensue from this situation. ... Any student who is arrested is immediately suspended from all extracurricular activities including sports."
