BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio —

Two drivers rescued a semi-truck driver trapped after a rollover crash in Belmont County on Tuesday.

A trooper with the Ohio State Highway Patrol said the tractor-trailer went off the right side of the Route 148 in Alledonia, struck a tree, then rolled over.

Warnock resident Terry Higgins saw the truck go off the road around 11 a.m. and got out of his own truck to see if the driver was alright. Higgins said he quickly spotted the driver trapped inside the overturned semi and, with no emergency squad in sight, Higgins and another man took matters into their own hands.

"Another guy came down with a pickup truck and happened to have a Sawzall, and me and another guy cut him out of the back of the truck," Higgins said.

He said the men used the Sawzall to cut through the semi-truck's front window and the driver was able to climb out.

"One way or another he was going to get himself out of that truck. He wanted out awful bad," Higgins said.

The driver was transported to Wheeling Hospital with only minor injuries, something Higgins said is fortunate after such a serious crash.

"The driver walked away. The truck can be replaced," he said.

Higgins, who also drives a truck, said areas of state Route 148 can be dangerous. He said even if a driver has an empty truck, they can still get into a crash like the one on Tuesday.
