Prosecutors in Harrison County have filed animal cruelty charges against a Cadiz couple who moved out of their Scio home and left their pets behind, according to humane officers.

Humane Officer Darla Smith says she found one of the dogs dead, and another one emaciated and near death, tied to the back porch on 3700 Bower Road.

Smith believes the dogs had been left alone and tied out for about two months.

A man living in the area finally called to report that the family had moved out and he believed dogs had been left behind.

The dog who survived is a 4-year-old Rottweiler, who now goes by the name Major. Major is now up for adoption. Smith says Major is great with other animals and is very friendly. Smith says he was actually adopted by the couple from a dog pound.
