Candidate filing to begin in West Virginia

By The Associated Press

CHARLESTON, W.Va.–

It's time for West Virginians to add their names to what will be a packed 2012 ballot.

The official candidate filing period begins Jan. 9.

All six statewide elected offices are up, including that of governor. So are

two spots on the state Supreme Court bench.

The entire 100 member House of Delegates must stand for re-election, along with half the 34 seat Senate.

These races will reflect the new districts lawmakers approved late last year. But a federal court case has left the state's three congressional districts undecided. Those offices are still on the ballot, as is one of the state's U.S. Senate seats.

Secretary of State Natalie Tennant expects 600 filings by the midnight Jan. 28 deadline. Her office is offering daily live video streaming of candidate filings, via www.wvsos.com .
