Car catches fire in scrap yard near Jefferson Co. jail

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio —

A car in a scrap yard caught fire on Friday, sparking a blaze that spread and took crews about an hour to contain.

The fire was reported around 8:45 a.m. at the scrap yard on South Street in Steubenville, near the Jefferson County Justice Center.

Officials said fires like this don’t happen often.

Steubenville firefighters are looking into what caused the car to catch fire, but they said it doesn’t appear to be suspicious.

No injuries were reported.
