JEFFERSON COUNTY, OHIO---
Mingo Junction resident Janet Morrow takes care of cats in her neighborhood and contacted NEWS9 when discovering several of her cats had been abused.
"It breaks my heart. It breaks my heart," Morrow said. "These animals don't deserve to be abused."
Morrow said she was sick when one of the cats she usually takes care of came into her home covered in a petroleum-like substance.
"They were trying to kill it one way or another," said Morrow. “If nothing else, if they weren't able to catch it on fire once they put that on it, it would have died of suffocation cause it was it was absorbed through the skin."
This was just once case of animal cruelty Morrow told NEWS9 about. In another instance, Morrow said one of her cats came home limping and bleeding after being shot at with some sort of pellet or paintball gun.
"It's a black and white cat, and the blood would just run down it all the way down the white, and I thought, as I said before, sometimes when a cat comes in it looks like a stranger because it's been altered. It was altered because it was injured," said Morrow.
Morrow explains she wants justice for these animals and has filed police reports in addition to placing calls to animal cruelty hotlines, but she said she keeps getting the same answers.
She said officials told her unless she knows who is responsible, nothing can be done.
While Morrow may not know who is responsible for torturing her cats, she does have a messages for whomever it may be.
"Shame on you, shame on you. You can't treat a human ... well its not a human being but it has a soul. You can't do that," Morrow said.
NEW9 did put a call in to Mingo Junction police about the cases but has not heard back.
Morrow said she was able to nurse the two injured cats back to health.
