Charges Filed In Beating Of 4-Year-Old Girl

Delgallo Gets 2 Felonies, Could Face 18 Years In Prison

One day after he allegedly beat his girlfriend's young daughter severely, 36-year-old Steven Delgallo got hit back... by the Jefferson County Prosecutor's Office. Friday the prosecutor's office filed charges of felonious assault and kidnapping in relation to the alleged attack from early Thursday morning.

Sheriff Fred Abdalla told NEWS9 on Thursday he believed the 4-year-old girl has a history of being beaten by Delgallo, a history which is still under investigation. But for now, Delgallo could face up to 18 years in prison, if he's convicted of sending the girl to the hospital... reportedly for wetting the bed.

"They are the most serious charges for this type of incident," says assistant prosecutor Jane M. Keenan, "Kidnapping is a first-degree felony, and he could face 3-10 years in prison for that. Felonious assault is a second-degree felony, for which he could get 2-8 years. So they're the most serious type of assault charges when you don't have a weapon involved."

Keenan tells us the kidnapping charge was filed because Delgallo allegedly restrained the girl in her bed while he was beating her Thursday. She says the girl is in foster care, and recovering from her injuries. Delgallo is due in court Monday morning. Stick with NEWS9 for continuing coverage.
