WEIRTON, W.Va.—

The new president of the Weirton Steelers Cheerleaders is coming under fire after being arrested on charges of driving while under the influence.

As the group's cheerleading president, Jodi Chafin is in charge of an organization that deals with children ages 7-12.

Police said around 3 a.m. May 24, Chafin was arrested and charged with aggravated DUI, possession of marijuana, and possession of a controlled substance after police said she ran into a pillar and a car outside of a house in the 2800 block of Kings Creek Road in Weirton.

Jennifer Foster is a cheerleader parent and said she just wants to make sure her children and all of the other cheerleaders involved are in the right hands.

"It angers me but it makes me more sad. I mean, to see a smile on my child's face, to see my child happy, I would do anything to make my child happy. To give my children things I never had, but she just... she should not be doing this," Foster said.

NEWS9 went to Chafin's house to get her side of the story. We were told she was home but she did not come to the door. We also placed a call to Chafin but she did not answer or return the phone call.

Chafin only held the position of president of the Weirton Steelers cheerleaders for a few months.

Parents said they hope a better screening process is put into place before someone new is given the position.
