Chief: Vacant house fire in Columbiana Co. suspicious

By NEWS9

LIVERPOOL TOWNSHIP, Ohio —

Officials said a fire that destroyed an abandoned Columbiana County home is suspicious.

The fire happened at a house on Oakland Avenue in Liverpool Township just after 10 p.m. Thursday.

Fire crews worked overnight putting out hot spots until 4 a.m. Around 6:30 a.m., a NEWS9 videographer spotted flames rekindling and called 911, and crews returned to the collapsed home within moments.

"There's no doubt it's suspicious. It's a vacant house," said Liverpool Township Fire Chief Mike Bahen.

Friday morning, crews were putting a coat of foam over the rubble to keep it from sparking again.
