Collapsed East Liverpool building prompts road closure

By NEWS9

EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio —

A part of a building collapsed onto an East Liverpool street Saturday evening, prompting officials to block the road.

It happened on Dresden Avenue around 5 p.m. Saturday and the road was still closed as of Sunday evening.

Crews were at the scene on Sunday and took off other loose brick and material to prevent anything from falling.

Officials said that about three feet of the facade was removed from that four story building.

East Liverpool Assistant Fire Chief Jeffrey Kreefer said that people were in the two businesses next door, but the collapse did not impact either of those buildings and no injuries were reported.

Old age and poor maintenance is most likely to blame, Kreefer said.
